These two former collieries are a small representation of the age of hard coal in the German history
Germany has a long history of mining coal. Due to the increase of cleaner energy; The demand for hard coal decreased fast, bringing an end to a coal mining era. Nowadays, most facilities that use coal run on lignite, also known as brown coal.
The traces of the mining industry can still be seen throughout the landscape, filled with different kinds of collieries. Many of those collieries are currently being dismantled and demolished. Only few are protected for monumental purposes, but still stand empty due to the lack of a profitable future.
This specific colliery was converted to a museum, thanks to this preservation attempt it still looks very good to this day. Although time has introduced the degradation process, this colliery is still an impressive sight to see.
